Weekend Reads #2: Adventure, Chinese Fiction, & Manga!

Happy Friday, everyone! I wish you all of the very best and a fun, relaxing weekend. It’s going to be blisteringly hot here in bipolar nation of California, so I will spending it indoors with a small stack of books and plenty of cold Yoohoo. Today, I’m going to share with y’all some of the stuff that I plan on immersing myself into! Happy reading, everyone!

Map of Bones (SIGMA Force #2) by James Rollins

This is an action-adventure story about the scientific and military group named SIGMA Force, who’ll follow a trail of clues and treasures that’ll lead them to the Vatican to save the world from doom and gloom. These novels tend to be very fast-paced and always sweeping from one crazy ass theatric unto the next. Think of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code but much better written, and a lot more well-researched.

The Leavers by Lisa Ko

An #OwnVoices Chinese fiction novel about a Chinese transracial adoptee. After his mother vanishes without a trace, Deming Guo is adopted by a pair of white college professors who move him out to the suburbs. They change his name to Daniel Wilkinson and force him to assimilate into white culture, thus stripping him of his Chinese heritage and background. But memories of his mother and the life he lived before being adopted, haunt him making Deming hesitant on letting go of his past.

Hot Gimmick by Miki Aihara

A shōjo manga series about a young adolescent girl named Hatsumi who deals with real-life problems involving family drama, blackmail, awkward first romances, and it means to grow up.

Husk Eden by Yoshinori Kisaragi

A josei manga series about a girl named Eripha who’s the only girl in the garrison of the World Government’s Army. This is a military faction tasked with protecting the massive city of Eldorado from  terrorists. After being stationed in Eldorado for 3 months, she befriends a young boy named Malka Dracae. However a sudden attack from terrorists, as well as a close-encounter with their leader, will change the course of everything for Eripha as she knows it.
