Happy Friday to all! I hope you all have a lovely weekend ahead. For today’s post, I’m going to briefly share with you all of the books that I shall be reading over Saturday and Sunday, and more than likely through the following week. Thus far, I have been liking all the titles I’m going to mention (that I’ve begun reading) quite immensely!
Dragon Champion (Age of Fire Book 1) by E.E. Knight
π² Adult fantasy
π² A story about a young dragon who’s left alone in the wake of a terrible tragedy. Refusing to believe he’s the last one of his kind, he sets out to find more of his kin.
π² The novel is told from the first-person perspective of the dragon.
π² So far the writing is very good and the story refreshingly original.
A Great & Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle #1) by Libba Bray
π© Young Adult, Supernatural, Historical Fiction
π© The story follows a young girl named Gemma Doyle who is taken from her home in India after her mother commits suicide, and placed into a proper boarding school, Spence, in England. Here she realises she has a startling new ability, as well as a mysterious admirer who followed her from India to England.
π© Takes place in 1845 and boasts a Gothic Victorian ambience.
π© I decided to pick up the series after a favourite BookTuber recommended it.
Blade of the Immortal Omnibus II by Hiroaki Samura
πΆ Seinen, Chanbara, Jidai-Geki, Manga
πΆ The story follows an immortal warrior who seeks to redeem himself of the 100 deaths he’s committed during his life. His quest leads him to a young girl who is set on the path of vengeance against those who slaughtered her entire family.
πΆ The historical, samurai series has the best illustrations I have ever seen in my life.
πΆ The story is an homage to classical samurai narratives, akin to Akira Kurosawa, yet it has enough unique and strange twists to revolutionise the genre in many ways.
πΆ Review for volume 1 shall be up in a few days.
Fruits Basket Collector’s Edition Volume 3 by Natsuki Takaya
πΒ ShΕjo, Romcom, Slice-of-Life, Supernatural
πΒ The story follows Tohru Honda as she ends up living with her classmate and his family through various circumstances, where she discovers that his family has a very strange and inconvenient secret!
πΒ Immensely feel-good and laugh-out-loud.
πΒ Heavily focused on character development and bonds of differing relationships.
π Β Beautiful artwork.
