Good afternoon, fellow book dragons & otaku lovelies everywhere!!
It has been a while since I’ve chatted about the happenings behind the scenes of BiblioNyan. Since I’ve been struggling with writing reviews and things, I decided to take a moment and share some of the really fantastic developments in my life recently. I also wanted to share a few things outside of the otaku and bookish realms that have been keeping me immensely entertained. So grab a beverage and get comfy! 🙂
The first thing I want to mention, and quite possibly the most exciting thing of all is that SIR BETROTHED & I FINALLY SET A WEDDING DATE!! WOOOOOT!! We have been going back and forth on this for a while, mostly because I have been wholly indecisive. But after a lovely weekend together, we set our official date for nuptial-partying. Now that this is out of the way, we can move towards planning our actual wedding.
Honestly, I cannot express to you guys how much this means to me. I feel like everything that I have ever been through in life (sappy train arriving), especially within the past ten to twelve years, was to help me grow as a human being so that I could meet the one person out there who is absolutely perfect me in every way. Those obstacles were some of the most difficult & damaging experiences of my life. But I survived. I hit rock bottom SO many times, and crawled out of it stronger, more self-assured, confident, and badass than I have ever been. Meeting Sir Betrothed has only worked to help me blossom even more into a much more compassionate, intelligent, and self-loving human being. I have never met anyone who’s ever filled me with the kind of joy and warmth that he has. I can confidently say that he is the person I’ve been waiting for my entire life. ♥
If I could give any piece of advice out there for people who are interested in successful, long-lasting relationships, it’s this: Find someone who respects you for you, all of you. Whether you have physical and mental health illnesses, or any number of character flaws that you feel make you unlovable–find the one human out there who makes you feel special and badass in spite of the negativity in your life. NEVER pick the person who oppresses you, or tries to change you to fit whatever is convenient/pleasant for them. Pick the one who enlightens you, enriches you, and supports you. Even if that means letting you know you’re being stupid every once in a while. A partner who loves you for ALL of you, and ALWAYS treats you like an EQUAL! Having been in a relationship where I was always dehumanised for who I was as a person, and for having my choices and desires in life always questioned, or oppressed, due to my partner’s superiority complex, I can say that it is an extremely damaging way to live. Never allow yourself to be treated less than you deserve, ever. It is never acceptable in any situation/circumstance. EVER. (Sappy train has departed).
So… yeah, there’s finally going to be a wedding, LOL.
The next super exciting thing I want to mention is that WE’RE GOING TO PAX WEST!! For anyone who isn’t familiar with PAX, or Penny Arcade Expo, it is a convention that is held in different parts of the United States, and is essentially a giant festival for gaming and gaming culture. This includes video gaming, arcade gaming, and tabletop gaming (Dungeons & Dragons, etc.). It started in 2004 and has grown into a massively awesome annual event. PAX West is the one that occurs in Seattle, WA.
It will be our first year attending and we are both SUPER psyched to be able to go. We try to travel, big or small, at least once every year, or every other year depending on our professional responsibilities. Originally we had planned for Hawaii, but then I read an article about PAX, and knew that we absolutely had to go as I have been wanting to attend for years! I don’t talk about it much here on BiblioNyan, but Sir Betrothed and I are huge gamers of various sorts, so this is such a dream come true! I guarantee that I will be sharing all of the PAX shenanigans here on BiblioNyan, so keep an eye out for it at the end of Summer 2018. If any of you have ever been to a PAX event and have some advice to share for newbies, please do so in the comments section! I would greatly appreciate it.
So those are my two biggest announcements and updates for Winter 2018. We definitely have quite a bit of excitement lined up for the year!
Aside from that, we finally bought a VR (Virtual Reality) system for our PlayStation 4. My first game using it was Resident Evil VII. HOLY SHIT, you guys! That game is really terrifying on a regular play through. You toss that beast into VR and it is quite literally one hell of a fucking experience. I completely understand now why Resident Evil VII won Best VR Game of 2017 across multiple awards. It deserves every single one of them. IT IS SO ATMOSPHERIC. If you are a fan of the survival horror genre, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you try out Resident Evil VII on VR. Honestly, I feel that this is the best way to experience the genre as it’s wholly immersive and does a phenomenal job of engaging all of your senses (minus sense of smell) while you play.
The last thing I want to share/recommend are the shows Peaky Blinders, which is a Netflix Original, and Houdini, which is a mini-series about the life of master magician Henry Houdini. Adrien Brody is so fucking underrated as an actor. When you get to Season 4 of Peaky Blinders, you can compare his roles in that and his role in Houdini and witness first-hand just how brilliantly versatile he is. Being able to watch him act along side Cillian Murphy, who is another brilliantly versatile, method actor, was an amazing experience.
Welp, with that I shall bring this post to a close! Thank you for stopping by and checking out the recent shenanigans of the BiblioNyan household. I would also like to take a moment and thank you all for always being so supportive and kind, whether I’m talking about books, anime, life, or other things. You all give me so much inspiration and are the reason that I enjoy the work that I do. I love and appreciate you all so much. 💗 If you guys are interested in gaming related content, please let me know in the comments section, and I shall give it a shot!
