Welcome to the second half of July’s Blogsphere Highlights! In case if you are new here, or just checking out these posts for the first time, this is a bi-monthly segment here on BiblioNyan where I share some really fantastic posts I’ve discovered from fellow bloggers during the month. Since there are so many wonderful bloggers and content out there, I do this twice a month to make sure I can celebrate and promote as many folks as I can. The second-half highlights, like this one, also includes some of my favourite posts that I’ve written during the relative month as well.
For July, anime and manga seems to have completely stolen, consumed, and celebrated the cake as there were quite a few thought-provoking and marvellously written content shared. This month, I have multiple posts from specific creators due to the how amazing those works were. As per usual, everything will be broken into categories.
The Best o’ BiblioNyan:
- Filmi Fridays: Vampire Hunter D (1985) – The Quintessential Classic Horror Anime – Film Review
- Angels of Death: 1st Impressions – A Conventional Thriller with Feeble Execution
- Strange Weather in Tokyo: A Novel by Hiromi Kawakami – Book Review
- Self-Care Sunday #4: Dealing with Sudden Depressive Episodes (Part I)
- The UN-Appeal of Hyped Books: A Discussion
- Skim & This One Summer by Jillian Tamaki & Mariko Tamaki – Graphic Novel Reviews (Mini)
- Create-a-Story Tag: Crescendo (Music + Sea + Tragedy)
Books & Comics:
- Nandini @ Unputdownable Books: Book Review – The House of Kanooru – An excellent review for a South Asian book.
- Carrie @ Cat on the Bookshelf: Book Review – American Panda by Gloria Cho – Another fabulous book review for July, this one written by Carrie about an #OwnVoices Chinese YA Contemporary.
- Shealea @ That Bookshelf Bitch: Legal Alternatives to Buying Books & Avoiding Book Piracy – Shealea offers a brilliant post on how to read books for free without participating in book piracy, which is extremely harmful for authors, not to mention very illegal.
- Jamie @ The Comic Vault: Comic Kitchen with Ms Marvel – This is a mouth-watering post that is collaboration with Carrie @ Witchy-Kitchen that shares yummy food from the comic series Ms Marvel.
Anime & Manga:
- Remy Fool @ The Lily Garden: Is There a Purpose to Episode Previews – Remy discusses the pros and cons of episodic previews, and it’s quite amazing.
- Scott @ Mechanical Anime Reviews: Chihayafuru Season 2 & Reality – This is a superb review and discussion about the anime, Chihayafuru Season 2, and how realistic it is in many respects.
- Rose @ Wretched & Divine: Shōnen Ai Recommendations – Rose offers up some awesome shōnen ai (boy love, not yaoi) manga recommendations, most of which seem perfect for beginners to the genre!
- Kyrios @ Energised & Salty: Golden Kamuy: Hunt for the Wilderpeople Meets the Revenant – This was a wonderful review for an excellent anime from last season that explores many of its shortcomings, and it can improve for the upcoming second season.
- Fred @ This is My Place: A Study in Violet – Fred offers a beautifully in-depth review of Violet Evergarden, and it’s one of the best I’ve read for the series, so definitely check it out!
- Jack @ The Aniwriter: OWLS Blog Tour July Post – What Sora & Shiro Can Teach Us About the Human Condition – I loved this post so much as it’s about the brother-sister duo, Sora and Shiro from No Game No Life, discussing what it means to be human and to have a special mentor bond with another person.
- Takuto @ Takuto’s Anime Café: The Royal Tutor – A Heartfelt Lesson on Judgment (OWLS Mentor) – Another OWLS post about mentors, this time it’s about the anime series, The Royal Tutor and how a bit of genuine human spirit can help fight misconceptions placed on people.
- Amelia @ A Girl and Her Anime: 3 Mystery Anime Serials to Keep You Guessing – Amelia shares a nice mini-list of suspenseful thriller anime that are perfect for all types of anime watchers.
Films & Video Games:
- Pete Davison @ Moe Gamer: Hyrule Warriors – Fun with Timelines – Pete shares how this newest Zelda instalments contributes to (or messes with) the established Legend of Zelda timeline. It was such an enjoyable read and I recommend it to all gamers, more so if you’re a Zelda enthusiast.
- Mindy @ Black and Yellow Otaku Gamers: Opinion – Western Remakes: Can They Be Successful – Mindy offers a positively brilliant and highly contemplative discussion on Western remakes of Asian cinema and whether they can be successful. It brings light to stealing vs adapting, as well as appropriation and disrespect of the relative cultures that tend to make Western adaptations such failures, and oft times very harmful in their execution. This is one of my favourite posts of the month.
- Michel @ Raistlin0903: Special Features Presents Action Movies of the 90s – This post made me so nostalgic, oh man. Michel shares some of the best action films from the 90s in this post, including one of my all-time faves, Face/Off!
Travel & Blogging:
- The Flying Tofu: Nagasaki’s China Town – This was a sweet and short post about China Town in Nagasaki during the Chinese Festival!
- Celia @ Celia in Tokyo: Summer Bliss at the Izu Peninsula – For people who are watching Grand Blue Dreaming, Izu may sound familiar! Check out Celia’s trip to the oceanic town and the breath-taking photos of Izu.
- Irina @ I Drink and Watch Anime: Good Reviewers vs Good Writers – Irina’s post was very interesting to read because it made me self-evaluate myself as a creator to see which category I fell into while reading about her doing the same in terms of her review style. I feel it’s a great read and important for those who enjoy or want to begin writing reviews.
- Arthifis @ Arthifis’ Place offers a couple of posts that pertain to blogging and being a content creator that I feel is helpful for all bloggers alike, whether you’re a long-time blogger or a fresh newbie. Check out the awesome advice given here: Blogging is Hard & Why I Say Personality is Everything As a Content Creator.
- Luminous Mongoose @ Otaku Essays & Analyses: Writing your Way Out of Writer’s Block – This was a splendid post about the struggles of having writer’s block: it’s normal and not something to stress yourself to bits about, and the different ways you can crawl out of it.
