One of my favourite parts about reading manga or watching anime are all of the lovely people that I can gush over, sometimes in a strictly superficial means (i.e.: they are hot as hell). Today I thought it would be fun to share with you five of my favourite beautiful or handsome dudes with black hair!
5. Alucard from Hellsing & Hellsing: Ultimate
Alucard is one of my favourite badass people! He is the walking epitome of what it means to be a badass, honestly speaking. Being the most powerful tool available to the Hellsing Organisation, Alucard is difficult to not like, whether in a superficial means or due to his sheer brilliance in a fight. He has over twenty abilities, an ultimate combat pistol called Jackal (a beast of a gun that is 16 inches in length, weighing approximately 35 pounds, and uses 13 mm explosive rounds that have been consecrated), a wonderfully sadistic sense-of-humour, is beautifully and unapologetically cruel in his fighting ferocity, and has a surprisingly multi-faceted personality that goes beyond death and glory of bloodshed.
4. Hak from Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona)
Hak is a character that I began to adore dearly upon reading the Yona of the Dawn manga series, after I had seen the first season of the anime. He is so bloody wholesome and loyal, which are really attractive traits to me in anyone. He’s also a fantastically talented warrior of the Wind Tribe. The shallow-minded pervert in me loves Hak because he is so swoon-worthy, with his long black hair and stunning blue eyes. But when you toss in a sense-of-humour that doesn’t mind being a bit crude and inappropriate, wicked charm, and the biggest heart around, you’ve got yourself one dangerously delicious boy. Hak also has exceptional chemistry—platonic and antagonistic—with essentially everyone he comes across. It can be difficult to pull off a natural platonic finesse with as many characters as Hak and the gang encounter, but when it is done, it’s really remarkable.
3. Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)
One of the biggest appeals about Levi is that liking him doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable because he is much closer to my age than other good-looking anime dudes. Being in his early 30s, it gives me a sense of relief because I can openly fantasise about him without coming off as some sort of weirdo pedo-person. I know this probably seems like a strange reason to like someone, but there you’ve got it. He’s also short like me, has a temper like me, is a neat-freak like me, and can curse like me (although I’m far worse in that regard). Being the best fucking soldier that humanity has, he’s also unbelievably badass and looks so fucking sexy being so. It is very difficult not to find Levi Ackerman to be one of the most attractive black-haired boys around. He would have been my number one if I wasn’t so damn biased about the other two.
2. Ryōsuke Takahashi from Initial D
Ani-folks who’ve been following me for a while will know that this list would never be complete without someone from Initial D on it. Ryōsuke is my pick! He is one of the most intelligent characters that I’ve come across in anime and manga, specifically when it comes to his passions. The dude knows racing, inside and out, and it’s not only restricted to the technical aspects of the sport. He understands what bonafide passion looks like and can sniff out a raw, innate talent from the wanna-bes with flawless ease. Additionally, Ryōsuke is a brilliant motherfucking street racer. The air surrounding his racing style and approach to the sport is very reminiscent of my brother’s and something that I have only witnessed IRL (in real life) with one or two people, and I can honestly say that there is no other presence quite like this one. Aside from racing, he’s studying to be a doctor, drinks tea like a boss, and is respectful of people who show authentic talent, especially if they’re better than him.
1. Ren Tsuruga from Skip Beat!
My devotion and undying love for the Skip Beat! manga series is one that I have rarely chatted about on BiblioNyan. That’s mostly because I know that once I start talking about it, it will be very difficult for me to stop talking about it. Skip Beat! is probably my all-time favourite shōjo manga ever. I love it so bloody much that I shanghaied my cousins into writing fanfiction about it with me. We’ve written many stories with various variations on the characters and their personas, and it’s always a fun time. One of the reasons that this series appeals to me so much is because of this character right here: Ren Tsuruga. Ren is not only one of the best-looking guys I’ve seen in a manga series in years (Sensei from Tsubaki-Chō Lonely Planet is coming to mind all of a sudden…hmmm), he’s so bloody smitten that you can’t help but root for him. Being a super privileged person, I had always expected Ren to be one-dimensional and empty space beyond his dashing good looks, but as I kept on reading through the series, I discovered that he has some of the most profound depth of many male characters in romance genre in the manga medium. I love complex people in my narratives—manga or otherwise—and people who make me think about life in ways I otherwise wouldn’t. Ren does that. Sometimes you will feel sad, other times happy, and more often than not frustrated because you want him to get everything he deserves, yet there’s a line he’s not willing to cross to get it. Ren is someone that you can’t help but respect, even if you don’t like him, and that I love him for it.
