Top 5 Favourite Bookish Anime Boys!

Good evening, friends! I wanted to end tonight on a fun and happy note, so I decided to share my top five favourite bookish boys (or men) from anime that I have seen thus far! I will create a separate list for girls some other day. I was asked as part of my 500 follower Q & A session who my favourite bookish character was and it inspired me to do a top five post like this. I also felt inspired after checking out Karandi’s post and couldn’t resist the temptation even more!

I know for sure that there’s at least one character on this list that won’t surprise anyone who knows me and my taste in anime dudes. But will the others surprise you? Check it out and let me know! 💕

5. Yang Wenli

Yang from The Legend of Galactic Heroes is a history buff and such he reads a lot of history books! I also love history and sometimes getting lost in the histories of other nations and cultures can be super exhilarating. Combine his love of history books with his battle prowess and sometimes geeky quirks, he becomes positively delightful!

4. Shigure Sōma

Sōma-sensei from Fruits Basket is one of my favourite lech-type-baka characters. He’s super funny, charming, his dirty mind is something that always makes me chuckle or relate to with my own dirty mind, and he’s an author! Shigure also tends to make references to some amazing Japanese authors and novels that further makes me swoon with joy!

3. Masami Kōndo

Kōndo-san is the restaurant manager from After the Rain who Akira falls in love with. This guy has phenomenal taste in literature! I recognised every single book and author that he brings up in the anime. It always makes me feel so good and giddy to hear his references, especially when he’s musing about life and the difficulties of being loved by someone like Akira. They are perfect glimpses into the literary works that he mentions and as someone who loves Japanese literature, I’m immediately drawn to him.

2. Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi from Naruto is the second-handsomest guy on my list of delicious book-loving boys. As if his passion for reading wasn’t enough to get me hooked, he reads graphic romance stories; probably mediocre porn more often than not. That quirk is so fricking funny, but also very endearing and relatable as someone who used to read naughty fan fiction late into the night. (Used to? Yeah… that’s a blatant lie.) He’s also a total fucking badass ninja!

1. Shōgo Makishima

Okay… you want to talk about bleeding brilliant and sensationally intelligent? This man right here, Shōgo Makishima from Psycho-Pass, is the one to turn to! Reading is something that helps people become individual thinkers rather than mindless followers of an oppressed system. That’s what he believed, at least a part of it, and it’s a notion that I have always adhered to and had faith in. There is just no way for me to not love him, or to not have him as my number one bookish bae!

  1. Yes!!! Shigure and Kondo! I love anime characters who love to read. Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul is also one of my favourites. <3 <3

  2. Kakashi is great! Interesting taste in books. But Jiraya was the one who wrote books. He was cool too.

    • Yeah, he definitely has interesting taste in books, haha. He reminds me so much of one of my closest friends. Good times.

  3. Makishima certainly is one of my favorites too. Despite the fact that he is a villain, he is such an interesting character 😊

    • Ah, I love him because he’s a villain, haha. *smiles awkwardly* But intelligent villains have always been my weakness lol. 🙂

  4. Love Yang, Makishima, and Masami. They are great characters. I haven’t spent much time with the others

    • Masami has such brilliant taste in books. When I watched After the Rain, it had me shook I was so impressed. Couldn’t leave him off the list.

  5. Totally agree with you on Makishima, though also glad to see Shigure getting some attention. Great list.

    • Shigure is awesome! I don’t see him very often at all and so I had to give him some love. He’s one of my fave characters from the series.
