Good day, chums! A few days ago, Sir Besty and I visited a local bookshop after a very long time. We have both been addicted to the library as of late, so we haven’t been purchasing many books, aside from a few pre-orders (mostly manga). I wasn’t really searching for anything in particular, yet I still managed to come home with five gently used Japanese literature books, one of which is a first edition of sorts from one of my favourite contemporary authors!
Check out my mini-haul down below! The picture captions shall take you to their respective GoodReads pages. I didn’t write up a synopsis this time around because I didn’t want to know anything about the books that I’ll be reading (plot-wise). The last book I have read, but it’s honestly one of those magical realism novels that is best when experienced without an ounce of knowledge as to what’s in it. That’s how I read it the first time and it was a lovely experience.

Bōtchan by Natsume Sōseki – One of my favourite books from one of my favourite authors. I didn’t have this edition, so I grabbed it.

Be With You by Takuji Ichikawa – I have never heard of this author, nor this book before, but when I asked my cousin about it, he recommended it very much. I trust his taste!

The Silent Cry by Kenzaburō Ōe – Another favourite author of mine. I don’t own nearly enough of his works. This is my way of remedying that.

Innocent World by Ami Sakurai – This is about a seventeen-year-old girl who deals with finding herself via self-destructive behaviour. Triggers for rape, depression, and self-harm.

After Dark by Haruki Murakami – This is the First US Edition of this novel, which is a phenomenal work of magical realism and an excellent place to begin if you are unfamiliar with his work. Also, he is my favourite living contemporary author.
Please, let me know if you’d like reviews for any of the books mentioned here. I’ll put a sticky note inside of it so when I read them, I can remember to write one up! I wish you all a lovely weekend.
I just want to say that your new blog look is cute!
