Today is a bright sunny morning, so what better way to begin it than by accepting The Sunshine Blogger Award! I was nominated for this award by the wonderfully kind Hilary Tan! She’s been an amazing part of the BiblioNyan community, and I feel wholeheartedly grateful for her support and this nomination. So, thank you so much, Hilary!! You’re the best.
Friends, if you get a chance, please do visit Hilary’s blog. She’s a cool wife and mummy, who takes time to write about things that bring her joy in life. She’s also a poet and has fantastic recipes for smoothies and baked goods.

01. Why did you decide to start a blog?
I began my blog as a means of finding comfort and distraction from the lowest point in my life. I was escaping a terribly abusive relationship and I needed something to help me escape my mental and emotional discomfort, even momentarily. I chose blogging because I love writing and wanted a way to become better at it, and also because I love reading and saw a community of readers online, where they would review and discuss books read. It seemed like a great place to start.
02. What year did you publish your first blog post?
My very first blog post went up in August or September of 2015, but I didn’t establish BiblioNyan until the end of 2016.
03. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I have two things that I love and respect equally about blogging. The first is the community of people that I have met and engaged with along the way. They are very supportive, both with my professional endeavours and my personal battles. The second is the different ways that it challenges me mentally and emotionally when it comes to using writing as a creative outlet.
04. Do you own a pet? If so, what kind?
Yes! I have several animals in my family. There are two cockatiels, whom I have had for 23 and 22 years respectively. I also have four cats; two boys who are brothers (they turned ten last week) and two girls (a tabby that is five years old and an all back kitty that is three years old). We are planning on adding a tortoise to our family later this year.
05. Do you have any routines before you a write a blog post?
There are quite a few things that I do, depending on what my blog goals are for the day. However, there are two specific steps in my blogging routine that I always do. The first is to catch-up on all the blog posts that I’m behind on. For example, if I blog on Friday and then the next post goes up on Sunday, I’ll sit down and read everything I’ve missed between those two days. Secondly, I outline my blog posts from beginning to end so that I have somewhat of an idea of what I want to discuss. I don’t always stick to my outlines one-hundred-percent of the time, but they are an excellent way for me to focus my thoughts and discussion points.
06. What motivates you to write? Where do you find inspiration?
My desire to become an author is a huge source of inspiration. Every post that I write helps me improve my writing, or evolve my writing style, in one way or another. My second source of inspiration is my passion for creating the content that I do and my desire to remain a dedicated part of the community that I’ve joined. Blogging also helps me cope with my mental health, so on my more difficult days in that regard, I can turn to blogging and find inspiration to keep moving forward, one day at a time.
07. What country do you live in?
I currently reside in the United States but hope to move outside of the US within a few years.
08. Are you a coffee or tea drinker?
Both. I have two cups of coffee when I awake, before I sit down to work, and then I drink various teas (and milo) throughout the day.
09. Are you a morning or night person?
Strictly a night person. My current schedule allows me to work from the late afternoon and evening all the way through the night.
10. What languages do you speak?
I have learned five total languages. Hindi was my first; I speak it fluently. Urdu was my second; I speak it fluently. English (UK) was my third; I speak it and write it fluently. Italian was my fourth; I’m quite out-of-practise with it. Japanese is my fifth; I’m currently learning this, and I can read, write, and speak it moderately.
11. What do you fear the most?
I am deathly terrified of spiders. The sight of one can completely incapacitate me. Aside from that, I’m terrified of losing my pets and my best friend to death.
Please, don’t feel obligated to do this if you’re too busy or simply aren’t interested. No pressure!
