So I’m a Spider, So What?: An Absurdly Amusing Isekai About Surviving as a Spiderling – Anime 1st Impressions (Winter 2021)

So I’m a Spider, So What? (蜘蛛ですが、なにか?) is a seinen, isekai, fantasy anime about an unnamed girl who falls asleep in her class one day and finds herself waking up as a spider hatching from an egg in a different world. Given my vehement distaste for spiders, I tried to avoid this anime as much as possible, but my morbid curiosity won out in the end. I’m happy that I gave it a shot because this is quite possibly one of the most ridiculously amazing things to air this season.

Laid-Back Camp Season 2: Wholesome, Whimsical Cosiness via Camping – Anime First Impressions (Winter 2021)

When the first season aired three years ago, I loved everything about it. I don’t typically gravitate towards moe-type things. However, I enjoyed the gorgeous scenery and the camaraderie that Laid-Back Camp offers. Based on the first segment for this second season, I expect things to be just as comforting and kind as they were back in 2018.

Snow White with the Red Hair – First Impressions: A Sumptuously Endearing, Feel-Good Shōjo Anime Series

Snow White with the Red Hair follows a young herbalist, or natural pharmacist, named Shirayuki. She resides in the kingdom of Tanbarun and is relatively known for her beautifully flowing bright red hair. When this unique quality catches the interest of the kingdom’s prince, he demands that she turn herself over to him as his concubine. Disenchanted by his boorish and entitled attitude, Shirayuki chops off her hair, leaving it behind in her humble shop as a gift for the prince, and then flees to the neighbouring country, where she encounters a dashingly handsome young man and his two childhood chums.

Japan Sinks 2020 – First Impressions: A Devastatingly Plausible & Poignant Disaster Series

Japan Sinks 2020 is set in modern-day Japan and follows a family who are trying to survive in the wake of a catastrophic earthquake that causes the archipelago of Japan to start sinking into the ocean. I read the novel earlier in the year and positively loved it for how incredibly realistic and plausible it is, as well as the depiction of the political and cultural context of 1970s-era Japan. After watching the first episode, I can tell that this shall probably become one of my favourite anime serials to hit the airwaves in recent years.
