Rating Systems

Welcome to my ratings page! Here you can find all of the things that are considered when I sit down to compose a review on bookish content and otaku content. If you have any questions, comments, or etc., please leave them under the Inquiries section, or in the comments section down below. Thank you!

Anime:

Anime ratings, starting on June 1st 2017, will all be based on a 10-star rating system. The basic facets that go into my ratings include:

  • Plot – pacing, progression, complexity, fluidity
  • Characters – diversity, representation, depth, growth
  • World & Atmosphere Building – use of details, senses that are engaged, imagery, emotions evoked
  • Motifs – subject & topics explored, themes, the messages being exhibited

  • Animation – the techniques used, the quality of the animation by current standards, the uniqueness of the style(s), how it engages the storytelling (positively or negatively)
  • Music – the composition of the music, the different ways it engages & compliments the stories being told, the mood & emotions evoked
  • CGI – the smoothness of the implementations, the effects they create, the quality of those effects, whether or not their presence is necessary
  • Adaptation – If the anime is an adaptation of a novel, light novel, or manga series, then exploration of how these adaptations compare to the original works will be made where applicable.

Please note: While all of these elements go into my overall ratings, I may not necessarily discuss every single one of them in a full review. I aim to write reviews that focus on the main and important ideas to provide a better understanding of the quality of the title being reviewed, without providing spoilers or excessive details that can ruin the overall reading and watching experiences. Thank you for your understanding!
