10 Things I Learned from the 30-Day Anime Challenge

Yesterday, I completed the 30-Day Anime Challenge, which is a monthly challenge that has small writing prompts you must answer for thirty consecutive days. It was my first time participating in a monthly challenge such as this, and I must say that it was quite an interesting experience. As a blogger, prior to the challenge,…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 30: An Anime You Wish Never Ended & Continued On

Day 30: An Anime You Wish Never Ended & Continued On Aside from my blaringly obvious choice of Initial D, I’d have to go with my other blaringly obvious choice: GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka. This funny, feel-good, rambunctiously inappropriate slice-of-life would bring my days so much comfort and warmth with new episodes. It would be…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 29: An Anime You Wished Were Real

Day 29: An Anime You Wished Were Real Another challenging one. I like how all of the really difficult ones to answer are during the last week. *sobs* Natsume’s Book of Friends (Natsume Yūjinchō) I would love, love, love to meet and befriend Takeshi Natsume and Nyanko Sensei and all of their gaggle of yōkai…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 28: Favourite Quote from Any Anime Character

Day 28: Favourite Quote from Any Anime Character This. Was. Difficult. As. Fuck. As a quote collector, I busted out with my small notebook and flipped through one page after another after another in attempt to find the perfect one. But after being alive for 30 years and going through some really tough shit in…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 27: Most Badass Scene from Any Anime

Day 27: Most Badass Scene from Any Anime Gonna pick a popular one for this prompt. Naruto versus Pain from Naruto I originally read this in the manga and thought it was spectacular. So, I asked my friend for the episode listing for this specific fight and watched those respective episodes. It blew my fucking…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 26: Best Anime Fight

Day 26: Best Anime Fight ** Please note: There will be mild spoilers for Initial D. ** Of course, my favourite fight or battle has to do with bloody car racing. It was unavoidable, haha. Takumi Fujiwara vs. Impact Blue from Initial D. This fight is unconventional in terms of the word “fight,” I know,…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 25: Saddest Anime Death

Day 25: Saddest Anime Death ** Please note: There will be major spoilers ahead for the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Please read at your own discretion! ** In tune with yesterday’s post, Moment that Shocked You the Most in Any Anime, this also takes place from the same scenario and is the death…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 24: Moment That Shocked You the Most in Any Anime

Day 24: Moment That Shocked You the Most in Any Anime ** Please note: There will be major spoilers ahead for the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Read at your own discretion! ** In one particular scene, Lelouch, who’s also Zero, accidentally orders the genocide of the Japanese people by ordering Euphemia to do…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 23: Favourite Attack Someone Use in Anime

Day 23: Favourite Attack Someone Used in Anime I chose this specific one because it is outrageously ridiculous and called out to a part of my personality y’all are very familiar with: kitties. Beerus from Dragon Ball Super (or the film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, depending on where you saw him first)…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 22: Favourite Weapon, Gear, or Armour Used in Anime

Day 22: Favourite Weapon, Gear, or Armour Used in Anime Okay, this one took me a long ass time to figure out because there were SO MANY awesome choices that I began to visualise right off the bat. But I managed to narrow it down. AE86 from Initial D. I know, I know, but hear…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 21: Favourite Goofy Anime Character

Day 21: Favourite Goofy Anime Character There is only one character that instantly came to my mind when I looked this prompt over, and they are: Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji). They are such a fantastic representation of Sebastian Michaelis’ fangirl/boy/people base. The excitement and squealing and overall gushing of butler number one is…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 20: Anime Character That Gets on Your Nerves

Day 20: Anime Character That Gets on Your Nerves Okay, I have a tie for this one. Bulma from Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z; Sakura (kid) from Naruto Bulma drives me fucking bat-shit crazy. I have no complex or profound reason as to why either. I simply find her personality to be unbearably unpleasant.…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 19: Most Epic Scene Ever

Day 19: Most Epic Scene Ever ** Please Note: There will be major spoilers ahead for Initial D First Stage. Please, read at your own discretion. ** I remember one of the biggest build-ups for the first season was Takumi Fujiwara’s battle with Ryōsuke Takahashi, as Ryōsuke was the most prestigious and talented racer during…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 18: Favourite Supporting Female Anime Character

Day 18: Favourite Supporting Female Anime Character You know, I was trying really hard not to make every post about Initial D, and it turns out that I’ve simply replaced the Initial D posts with GTO… Oops… Urumi Kanzaki from GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka This girl… she reminds me so much of my ex-girlfriend. Kanzaki…

30-Day Anime Challenge – Day 17: Favourite Supporting Male Anime Character

Day 17: Favourite Supporting Male Anime Character Alright, for today’s post, I’m going to do something that I don’t do too often: choose a super, über hyped anime character. Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z I fucking love Vegeta. Even though the wholly handsome Prince of Saiyans is super arrogant and cocky, he’s also a huge…

Japanese Lit. Bookstagram

Revenge by Yōko Ogawa is the short story collection that not only got me into adoring anthologies & short story reading, but also heavily inspired me to start writing my very own short story books. The author is one of my female creators & her versatility with the pen is absolutely incredible. Swipe for more details on Revenge! If you’d like more Ogawa book recs, I highly suggest The Housekeeper and the Professor for a family-oriented, heartwarming tale. For more psychologically dark & thought-provoking narrative elements, I suggest Hotel Iris!
Since my heart-surgery, I’ve been interested in making long-term to permanent lifestyle changes, not just with respect to my physical health, but also my mental and spiritual health. This short and easy to read book is an excellent place for beginners like me to get ideas of how to start making those changes and I adored every bit of it. Swipe for a full review! 💕
A favourite female author is Hiromi Kawakami. She writes stories of seemingly inconsequential experiences that hold a powerful dose of complex existentialism and I adore every bit of it. Her novel Strange Weather in Tokyo is a simple yet incredibly profound piece of literature on the nature of existence, particularly with respect to what we leave behind. The translation is extraordinary. The writing perfect. The themes brilliant. Swipe for my full review.
The Travelling Cat Chronicles is my favourite novel ever written & it’s the only book that made me cry for *hours* after I finished reading it. It’s both incredibly beautiful yet achingly soul-shattering. Swipe for my full review & reasons why all readers of literary fiction (and cat lovers) should check out this amazing novel. 💙
Naomi by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki is one of my favourite Japanese literature novels of all-time, especially because of how brilliantly telling it is about Japan’s postwar modernisation struggles. Please swipe through for my full review! If you’ve read this title, please let me know what you thought of it! 😁 Happy readings! ✌🏽
Happy shelfie Sunday, y’all! Just wanted to pop in quickly & wish you a gentle & kind week. I’m going to start sharing book reviews in a couple days. Have a lovely day & cosy week ahead.
