Musical scores are my favourite genre of music. Instrumental and classical sounds are my go-to sanctuary for virtually every single bout of stress that comes my way. The comfort in the notes and the melodies are akin to a combination of meditation and the soothing effects of a hug from someone who brings me the most peace in my life. Even so, there are very few that I can listen to over and over again without getting bored or terribly restless.
One of the elements that tend to make me return to a specific video game over and over again are character classes, particularly if I’m playing an action-RPG or a roguelike. Rogue Legacy 2 is my favourite roguelike (also known as a rogue-lite) to have been released within the past year. In my First Impressions, I went over a lot of the gameplay aspects that I enjoy, including the various class options. As such, I thought it would be neat to chat about a few of my most-anticipated games hitting shelves in the first half of the year.
So far I have sunk approximately ten hours into Rogue Legacy 2 and my current impression of this title is that it is absolutely fucking incredible. It takes almost everything that I adored about its predecessor and honed it into a masterpiece of roguelike gaming. From the character traits to the way gold is handled to the lore and storyline—everything thus far has been a brilliantly enjoyable and highly engaging ride.
