Kemono Jihen (怪物事変) is a shōnen, dark fantasy, supernatural anime adaptation of the manga series, following Special Detective Kōachi Inugami who’s summoned to a mountain village after the discovery of animal corpses. Shortly after he arrives, he meets a young boy that wishes to help the detective in solving the case. This eventually leads Inugami to realise that supernatural forces may be at play.
With this week, we shall be reaching (and in some cases surpassing) the halfway mark for most of the Winter 2021 anime simulcast season. I thought it would be neat to briefly chat about my overall musings for the stack of serials that I’ve currently got my hands in (well, that doesn’t sound naughty at all…). Luckily, most of my watchings have been bitchin’ awesome with only a couple of sour mangoes in the bunch.
I honestly wasn’t planning on watching this series as I don’t know dick about skateboarding. However, during a bout of insomnia, I found it floating around on Funimation’s website and figured what the hell. I’m so glad that I took a chance on it because this very well may become one of my top three anime picks from the Winter 2021 season thus far.
Horimiya (ホリミヤ) is a shōnen, romantic comedy anime series about two unlikely individuals who end up coming together due to peculiar circumstances. As they realise they’re classmates that are, in fact, quite different in reality versus their student personas, they formulate a platonic kinship which blooms beautifully with the potential for much more.
Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki (弱キャラ友崎くん) is a shōnen, romantic comedy anime series about a guy named Tomozaki who’s a badass online gamer. However, in reality, he’s an introverted, anti-social, loner geek. He absolutely loathes the game called Life since most people tend to have it easy with either their looks or personality or other superficial characteristic, and these same individuals make harsh judgments on anyone who isn’t quite like them.
Dr Ramune: Mysterious Disease Specialist (怪病医ラムネ) is a seinen, fantasy about a highly energetic doctor living in the city who takes on patients with unique and mysterious illnesses that normal doctors cannot diagnose or even see the existence of.
So I’m a Spider, So What? (蜘蛛ですが、なにか？) is a seinen, isekai, fantasy anime about an unnamed girl who falls asleep in her class one day and finds herself waking up as a spider hatching from an egg in a different world. Given my vehement distaste for spiders, I tried to avoid this anime as much as possible, but my morbid curiosity won out in the end. I’m happy that I gave it a shot because this is quite possibly one of the most ridiculously amazing things to air this season.
I finally received an opportunity to sit down and take a gander at the Winter 2021 anime offerings. At first, I thought there would only be four or five shows that would be of interest to me, yet after paroozing the catalogue, I ended up with a tentative watchlist of approximately eleven to twelve titles!
