The 30 Days of Gratitude Challenge: Day 19 – Indulgences

Day 19: What splurge item do you own that you are most grateful for?

Does it count if it was a gift? Because I know this was a definite splurge item for the person who gave it to me. It’s a signed first-edition of Haruki Murakami’s Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage given to me for Christmas last year by Sir Besty.

When we first met, I was living out of a cold, uninsulated garage, and was barely scraping by. Because of that, I had to cancel my pre-order of this book. On the book’s release day, they surprised me with the damn thing. Then last year for the holidays, they gave me another copy, but this time it was signed; a memento of our friendship and how far we both had come because of the support we gave one another. The reason it was a splurge was because technically they couldn’t afford it (we were still paying off Azizi’s surgery from August).

I’m crying while I type this, but you know, I’m super happy. Nothing else I own can compare to this. Nothing.
